## Planck mass in natural-unit physics

**planckMass** is the mass scale formed from the reduced Planck constant, speed of light, and gravitational constant. Although tiny by everyday standards, it is enormous compared with particle masses.

## Why it matters

Planck mass sets a characteristic scale in quantum-gravity discussions. It is related to [planckLength](https://calcul.io/constants/planckLength/index.md) and [planckTime](https://calcul.io/constants/planckTime/index.md), which complete the natural scale family.

## Caveats

It is not the mass of a known particle. Be careful whether a formula uses mass or energy; convert through [speedOfLight](https://calcul.io/constants/speedOfLight/index.md) and use [pow](https://calcul.io/function/pow/index.md) for the squared c factor.
